Salary is based on what others are willing to give up for your labor not what society thinks it ought to be. People value plumbers and accountants' services more so they pay them more. Also, teachers are paid less because they have job security, long vacations and good fringe benefits. When you have good non wage item like those, you can find peopel who will work for a lower wage than they would without those items.
