Near Richmond VA. is the old Bellona Arsenal, or what remains of it. John Clarke, and later Junius L. Archer cast cannons for the Federal Government and later, the Confederacy. The iron cannon-casting flask is an extremely rare relic of Civil War-era cannon casting.

  • ...Also, there is another Bellona Arsenal historical marker at the intersection of Robious and Midlothian Turnpike, you can only see it if you are going West on Midlothian. It's on the right just past the stop light right before you get to the 7/11.

  • ... the cannon flask is in fron of the building, right next to the road. If you come from Huegonot Rd., it's about the same distance, but obviously, it will be on your right. It's about 1/2 mile past where Cherokee Rd. hits Old Gun Rd., or about 1/4 mile past the Jmes River Boat Club. There is a pull off spot where you can stop and read the historical marker and take pics. The brick building is where the Confederates used to keep Union officers, the historical Marker explains it all...

  • @rem042 I live in Bon Air also, right off of Old Bon Air Rd., small world!! The site is on Old Gun Rd. Old Gun comes out on Huegonot Rd. right across from St. Edwards Church, and it also comes out on Robious a little over a 1/2 mile west of Huegonot Rd. If you go from Robious, it's a little more than 2 miles on your left, you'll come to a real sharp (15mph) right hand turn and while going down a hill just keep looking to the left and you will see the ruins to an old brick building and...
