Parts of northern China are battling through the worst drought in decades. Extreme cold is also affecting shipping lanes as sea ice is forming along the east coast. And many parts of southwest China are affected by freezing rain and heavy snow.
Most of China's wheat-growing areas in the north are suffering from drought with no rain for more than three months.
Experts say if the drought continues, the winter wheat crop could hurt significantly.
The wheat province of Shandong is facing its worst drought in a century. In the cities of Linyi, Rizhao and Weifang, the dry spell has lowered reservoirs dramatically.
Nearly 250-thousand people are facing drinking water shortages.
Drought has affected winter wheat crops in 17 percent of China's wheat-growing areas in the country's northern breadbasket.
Extreme cold is hitting China's shipping lanes as sea ice forms off the eastern coast, slowing the passage of large vessels and preventing smaller ones from leaving port.
The floating ice sheets can threaten smaller vessels if the blocks collide and crush the boat.
Meanwhile, parts of southwest China have been hit by freezing rain and heavy snow, affecting crops and causing traffic disruptions.
People in Guizhou and Anhui provinces had to spread feed on the ground for birds because snow and ice has limited their access to natural sources of food.
In northwestern Xinjiang, days of heavy snowfall cut off roads and stranded local herdsmen in their homes.
A cold snap bringing freezing rain and snow is likely to hit the southwestern region in the middle of this week, and dry weather in the north is expected to go on for some time.
