He did not die in that he could never come back, rather the Celestials came to collect upon their deal made centuries ago. He tried to embrace death to escape payment, but the entities just ressurected him and whisked him away to ensure he fullfilled his part of the pact.
Good news though, just found out he is to play a major role in Messiah War and he has already claimed Stryfe(The Cable Clone) as his new vessel.

Man have you all read Marvel comics? There's no way people can keep up with all the confrontations that all the characters have been through. Don't even get me started with Daken and Wolvering and Romolus, fuck! Then other mutants manipulating other mutants for decades or centuries and other mutants traveling through time. Then there are the secret criminal groups and spy groups which get tangled up with everyone I mentioned. Damn who keeps up with this? It's all awesome though.
