There's nothing like foot pain to make you crazy. That's what an expert at Mayo Clinic says he hears from patients who have a condition called plantar fasciitis [fashee-EYE-tis]. It's very common and can make walking across the room a miserable experience. What can you do about it?

  • Interesting about "heating" up the foot as well as "icing" it, I'm curious as to how one might go about doing the first one, i.e "heating up" the foot, not seen that piece of advice before!

  • @Gardena380

Heat: The use of superficial heat for 5-10 min pre exercise warms the tissue up allowing for a more effective stretch.

Typically a heating pad, warm pack, or bucket of warm water can suffice.

  • I agree with bobdinker below - "Trigger Point..." is a very good book to address plantar fasciitis.

You might also want to check out the book "Injury Afoot, 30 Things You Can Do to Relieve Plantar Fasciitis" on Amazon.

  • I suffered with PF for 4 years. The entire fascia was sore to the touch. I received approx 12 cortizone shots over that period in my right foot and did more damage than anything. Finally found a good surgeon in NY who told me whatever kind of excercise I tried it would not help because the fascia was extremely totally inflammed from flat feet and genetic foot cave in. Had Topaz surgery done on both feet and they now feel like I have the feet of a 16yr old.

  • I tried all the suggestions in this video to help alleviate the pain with my PF, but what really helped not only with the PF but also the tendon pain in my knee (from walking skewed attempting to alleviate the pain in my feet) was Z-coil shoes... With the Z-coils, I saved a lot of time and money in therapy and having custom orthotic inserts made. I learned about z-coils 2 yrs prior from a nurse at Riley Hospital for children who raved about her painless 12-hour shifts on her feet after z-coils.

  • @tooteyfrootey Unfortunately no, you should not ignore pain. The old saying pain is gain does not apply.

If you have not had your foot evaluated you should.

  • I got the orthotics from Dr Schols - the machine they have in stores - and are a God-send. My plantar fascitis went away completely. I can walk all day without any pain. I recommend them to everyone. I orginally went to an orthotic store who were going to charge me $300, and these were only $50, and are completely worth it.

  • @Gardena380 You can buy a heating pad lol Do you live under a rock lmao. You can put them in a microwave to heat them up. You do have a microwave or heard of one?????

  • I'm amazed that massage therapy was not listed as a possible treatment, considering it is a therapy that specializes in release of soft-tissue adhesions (fascia)
