Mine also does this !!! If he has his toy he will growl but he is only playing they are actually very loving dogs

they do it because of their strong hunting background everything is a game of some sort mine growls at everything he loves to fight over his bones and stuff he bites hard and really wants to bite harder can tell its just somthing programmed into them. if you walk them and theres a house with a cat he will never forget it. we had a mouse in the house while back it ran under the fridge the dog sat there 3 days waiting shivering like a nut job
