Hey Blues Fans,
Here's a quick intro lick that's a nice addition to your blues arsenal. All the greats, like Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Billy Gibbons, Stevie Ray, etc., use the lick. It's shown in G, but can be moved up and down the neck to play in other keys.

One of the keys to making this lick sound good is to nail the "1 to the 1″ move. This is where you play a note on one string, then slide up to the same note on the next lower string. In this case, it's the G note on the high E (third fret), followed by a slide to the G note on the B string (8th fret).

  • Great lick, could you tell me what sale this is played in?

  • @jbholland2 ,

It's kind of a mix: The first 4 notes are G minor pentatonic, then the middle notes are G major pentatonic.

    Thanks!

  • I DID it! Thanks for the lesson. Learning to play lead in my late 50s has been a challenge, but learning little bits at a time, it is not so overwhelming.

  • YOU ROCK! Totally.

  • Nice one thanks

  • fantastic stuff- thanks so much for showing

  • @haywyre62 The first 4 notes are D - G - D - B (considering the note reached by the bending) so G major. The second part could be considered as a G minor pentatonic with dorian notes added (A und E) or as a C major pentatonic. In fact, when I play background chord over this lick, for the first part (until the bending) you could play a G (or G7) and for the second a C (or C7) just to return to G at the very last note.

  • cheers bud, although I see you have a secret admirer in djerwulfe, I honestly think the guy has some Brokeback motives in mind the way he stalks you.......lol

  • Another great lick lesson! Thanks!

  • @haywyre62 your vids are the greatest help in the world
