The Oregon Department of Transportation and its partners have placed the nation's first solar highway on the ground, bringing the power of the sun to the transportation system. This project uses highway right-of-way to generate power.

  • first car to crash into those cells, POOF goes 50 grand in solar cells.

    honestly I don't think a state can handle this, leave the solar to the home owners installing their own systems and tying those into the power grid.

    solar panels just became cheap enough without tax credits to make solar, especially augmented with a wind turbine, a cost effective investment for any home.

  • That is just a small Solar power plant for the highway lights. A real Solar Highway that also take care of the lights is the Solar Roadways project.

  • why Oregon? Isn't there a lot of cloud cover in Oregon? Sure looks like it from most of the photos. but this isn't a solar highway, but additional land beside the highway used for solar energy production.
