Blue Steele Orch., voc. Mabel Batson - There's A Tear For Every Smile In Hollywood (from Mervyn Le Roy movie: Show Girl In Hollywood) (Composer: Sam H. Stept), Victor 1930

Sam H. Stept -- born in Odessa, Russia, died In 1964, Hollywood, CA
This composer's family emigrated from Russia in 1900, and settled in Pittsburg, PA. Sam's earliest years were spent first as a song plugger in a Pittsburg music publishing Mouse, then he worked as accompanist for such vaudeville stars as Ann Handler, Mae West, and Jack Norworth. He started his own band in Cleveland in the early 1920's and began composing shortly after forming his band. Working with lyricist Bud Green, He composed such evergreen hits, like "That's My Weakness Now" for Helen Kane, "The World is Yours and Mine" for the movie 'Mother's Boy'
"Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone," "Sweethearts", for film 'Hit Parade' or In 1941 "Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree (With Anyone Else But Me)", one of the biggest hits for the Andrews Sisters, and for the Glenn Miller Orchestra. In 1961, his tune "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone" received a fresh new rendering by Frank Sinatra.
