The California Special Election is scheduled for May 19th with propositions 1A - 1F. The largest financial proposition 1D, intends to divert $608 mil+ from the organization known as First Five. Those funds would then be moved over to the States General Fund. The 1 hour program has 5 community executives discussing the financial and community impact if Prop 1D should pass.
Special Note: The ballot description for Prop 1D is misleading. It depicts that funds will be secured for children and families. However, First Five for the past 10 years has been providing services for children and families and if the funding is removed so will the programs that are already existing. In addition, First Five leverages the state funds to receive federal funding so the impact is even greater. Also, First Five is not allowed to advertise or speak out against the proposition since the revenues that they receive are from taxes placed upon cigarettes by the state. State law prohibits using state funds to oppose propositions that are to be determined by California Voters.
