  • Very appropriate. Beecham the Delius expert and Del Mar who played horn for Beecham in the RPO before becoming one of the UK's finest conductors. Didn't know they were all buried together. Del Mar did a fabulous job with the LSSO and he will never be forgotten.

  • bannan61,

Delius died in 1934 and was buried(for a year)in France, before being transferred to Surrey,Jelka(his wife)contracted pneumonia on the channel crossing, and died four days after Delius burial.Beecham died in 1961,and Del Mar in 1994,and both expressed a wish to be buried near Delius.

Quite a musical little churchyard isn't it?

  • Wonder if this was the inspiration for the opening to the Original Star Trek....

  • great peice

  • I visited Del Mar's grave today. He's buried beside Beecham in Limpsfield Cemetery with Delius just behind them.
