If there is anything a baby can do reliably, it is to NOT SLEEP. We found that our 6-month old was so good at not sleeping, that we knew she was well qualified to be the princess in the Princess and the Pea story.
The king and queen test several candidate princesses who seek to marry their son the prince. Two princesses seem pleasant enough, but fail the most critical test: they fail to notice that there is a tiny pea hidden underneath the mattress in the guest bed as they sleep in it. Finally, the true princess arrives, and she is unable to sleep because of the pea. Once she passes the test, the prince and princess are married and live happily ever after.
The prince is a large stuffed bear, which is actually considerably larger than the princess herself. The king is a Beethoven puppet, and the queen is an elephant puppet.
