Salome Sandoval performs at The Cathedral Church of St. Paul's; September 22, 2010. Teri Kowiak, soprano. Su, ferisci, alato arciero by Agostino Steffani (1654-1728)
for two sopranos and continuo. Hanover?, c1702
Translation: Come on shoot, winged archer, your dart does not kill. A dark eye firing arrows of love makes a wound that delights, and a pain that is also sweet. What suffering can be given by a glance that is met with delight? Then let the blind god strike, if his arrow brings with it the hope of pleasure. What torment can be caused by that heart in which desire is fixed? That torment is a slender cloud, which by the clear sky of one delight is quickly dispelled.
