update #4: i bought a replacement bass drum pedal from rockpedal.com. **WOW** ..it is simply phenomenal. heres my review: it is a REAL KICK pedal modified slightly to be used with rockband. it was ready to play right out of the box. it feels WAY better than the plastic pedal. you can adjust like 4 different things so that it feels perfect when you're playing. BUY ONE NOW. if your pedal hasnt broken, it probably will unless you're still playing less than hard/expert. this thing will outlast any other piece of hardware for these drumming games. 12 month warranty and a free test run. i emailed the owner, Jordan, with questions and he got right back with me. class A guy who really stands behind my product.

if you didnt notice in my "blackened" video, im playing a modified double kick with a practice pad. i went to guitar center and bought a 100 dollar (el cheapo brand) double kick drum set, a 60 dollar practice pad, wood, parts at radio shack, and about 3 hours to make my own working "real" replacement. it was never top notch because i just didnt invest the time, money, and research into doing it the professional way. i should have bought this a long time ago. now maybe i'll play this game a lot more. i had stopped playing a month or so after i broke my pedal because my replacement that i built just didnt cut it.

the pedal i got from jordan at rockpedal.com triggers the kick drum the same way the original way does, which is the correct way. i dont get anymore inaccurate hits and double/triple kicks when i didn't press it right. its like the original with a solid feel and tweakbility to adjust to any type of player.

update #3: EA has reportedly told users that call in requesting a replacement bass pedal to WEAR SHOES so that people will stop making rumors that it will break if you are wearing shoes.

update #2: everyone thinks i'm wearing boots. these are nike hightop sneakers. they are comfortable and not firm. secondly, where does it say in the manual to not wear shoes? i wear shoes when i play real drums so why would i do any differently? EA and harmonix didn't give a disclaimer at any point to emphasize being very careful when playing their game because if not you'll break it. the pedal is FLAWED, plain and simple. press it down all the way and look at the gap in the middle. now gently force it a little more and you'll see the pedal flexes. plastic + flexing = breaking

i took my shirt off because when i filmed the video it was within the first week that i got the game and i had been playing it a lot. when i reocrded the video, i had been playing for a while that night. drumming = high energy exertion = sweating. at least on expert metallica. if you don't understand that's because you're playing radio head on medium difficulty.

lastly, i lot of people say play drums for real! stop wasting your time! join a real band! 1) i do play drums for real (occasionally). 2) after the first 2 weeks or so of owning the game, i've probably played rock band a total of 5 hours since which is less than an hour average per month. 3) i'm in a band and have been in rock/metal bands for the past 12 years

update #1: EA replaced it for free. i havent used it because i made my own out of a real kick pedal, practice pad, and a button from radio shack. see other video. (edit: i replaced mine with a pedal from rockpedal.com .. see above)

Original description:

skip to the 4 minute mark if you're impatient.

i bought rock band exactly one week ago and i've spent a few hours almost every day jamming on the drumset. i even got to #1 on metallica's blackened and #4 on And Justice for All, so i decided to film myself. midway through the kick drum pedal cracks in half. ouch

  • why did you make this video? you wasted 3 minutes of my life.

  • @bruthaflo i didn't force you to watch it.

  • IDIOT

stop playing with shoes and kick it slowly

  • @markinhogh2 sure and i'll strap toliet paper rolls to my feet while i'm at it. why not take the precautions even further. also kicking slowing is a wonderful idea since its a rhythm game. late and slow kicks would be perfect. why didnt i think of this? you must get asked for advice from people all of the time.

  • @TPpizzle if you bothered to read the vid description before watching it, you'd know that i already know how to play a real set. who cares though. lets be lazy and throw around insinuations. learn how to read

  • I understand that this sucks because it happened to me, but playing with shoes is not a good idea.

I duck taped mine back together and it works great, actually feels like a cheat because I only have to push the pedal half way down for it to register.

  • My friend broke it during the endless setlist. God damn you Neil Peart and your badass drum playing on Tom Sawyer!

  • thats weird. My first and second pedals broke during this very same song. the stock rb1 kits suck ass lol

  • your technique sucks.....

  • @megagoo99 lol i think its more a combination of the song and how much force your useing on that pedal, personally i figured somone would eventually break the pedal with a metallica song lol.

  • @markinhogh2 yes, your bass pedal its gona brake more fast

  • its a metallica song thats why!

  • ppl have no emotion or feeling or soul watever when playing :P they seem to struggle, even the position is retarded . they dont even know how to grip the stick properly lolz. how can u not headbang while playing this? i dont even need to luck in the chart when playing lol xD

  • I remember when this happened to me..... I just cut part of a wooden fan blade off and glued it where the plastic pedal went and glued the thing that hits the sensor under it..... it is still working but it is really hard to push down so it is really difficult for double bass hits.... i really need a rock pedal and an ion kit ( or at least new pads for my ps3 rockband 1 kit)

  • man with no rythm...
