Here's a quick look at the Fenix E01 LED flashlight.

Overall, I highly recommend the light. It's rated at 10 lumens, although lightbox readings suggest it may actually be closer to 8. The light functions at peak capacity for 11 hours thanks to its regulated circuitry and then another 10 hours at decreased brightness. The beam quality is somewhat mediocre since the hotspot is rather purple tinted, but that's to be expected from the 5mm Nichia GS LED. It uses a twist switch for one handed operation. The finish is type III hard-anodized to minimize scratches, although regular use on a keychain will most likely result in some degree of paint chipping. Both the body and bezel have knurling for facilitated grip. There is no glass cover in front of the LED. The light comes with extra o-rings and the threads feel well lubricated out of the box.

I would recommend this light as a backup or for keychain use. It makes for an excellent gift. You can buy one from fenixstore.com for $15 shipped with USPS Priority mail. The E01 comes in five color varieties: Black, olive, purple, gold, and blue. Here's the link: http://www.fenix-store.com/

Due to its low cost, compact size, above average runtime, and excellent workmanship, I give the E01 a 9 out of 10. Just keep in mind that this light is not very bright and was not designed for accurate color rendition.

  • What's to prevent this from turning on in your pocket since it has a twist head switch?

  • Nothing that I know of. However, I found that if you twist the light sufficiently it shouldn't turn on accidentally.

  • The light is rated at 10 lumens, but in reality it's probably more like 8. And there is no protective lens in front of the LED, but I did not find this to be an issue. You can read more from the video description I provided.

  • I just ordered the T1+E01 combo on fenix-store. CANT WAIT!

Also ordered the new KD Buckle aka. Tough with Q5 on KD. And the new Romisen RC-N3 Q5. Also a RC-H3, 16-Mode driver + Q5 emmiter + 14500 to mod it myself.

    Flashaholic. =D

  • Yeah, I ordered a Romisen RC-N3 Q5 for my brother, should be here next week. I was going to get a KD Buckle light, but I heard the runtimes were short. Seems like a good light, though.

  • I just went on a 3-day camping trip with my family and the E01 came in handy on multiple occasions.

  • @Deathless2288 Great idea. Whenever I want to turn on the light, all I have to do is unscrew the cap, remove the tape, and screw it back on. Thanks.

  • @CoolasIce2 Try using some teflon tape on the threads, it's awesome.

I wouldn't swap my Fenix L2D (the forefather of the L20D) for any other light... including anything made by Surefire. You can walk into any store_in_the_world and pick up AA batteries, it has a fantastic selection of modes and runtimes and as I look at Surefire, nothing there in the same class makes me want to upgrade. I also struggle to see where the extra money is going. And do they even make an AA light? Imagine asking for a pack of 123's in some small town store? Yeah right!

  • @counkev

They're pretty much incomparable. One is a single AAA torch that is little more than a lockfinder torch that sits on a keyring (Fenix E01) and the other is a proper torch (Maglite). Although if you're looking at buying a 2 cell AA torch, I would get a Fenix L20D instead. More expensive, but it will last forever and has a wider selection of modes and run times.

  • @ZeroToleranceKnives quality? maybe construction quality, which I even seriously doubt. But about their performance... Surefire should be out of business, overpassed

  • @CoolasIce2 your common sense

  • Great review! Thanks.

  • Which would you say is better a Maglite 2cell AA or this the Fenix E01 ?? Respond Please

  • how long is the warranty?
