Pulled this weight off with both hands tonight - something that surprised me when my left managed it! This is a contest event that my hands are ideally suited for, because the very first time I tried the lift in a contest - a USAWA 2003 Record Day event at Bill Clark's Gym in Columbia, MO - I beat the record in my weight class (220lbs) by a huge margin on the right hand, and significantly on the left too.

This is my friend's bar (thanks Robert!), so I've got to thank him again for loaning it to me. I really meant to return it last week but got sidetracked. Then today I started lifting and my body was just responding like it does when I'm in contests (which is a huge boost) so I didn't want to spoil it by stopping until I had wrung the last bit of strength out of my body.

I broke the left hand record in this event at a USAWA Record Day event in February - held at Al Myers' Dino Gym in Abilene, KS - by about 45lbs. It was a record that I set back in December of 2003 actually. This lift tonight would beat even my most recent record by 25lbs. It would also beat the right hand record - also held by me - by 5lbs.

  • Nice lift, will try thumbless grip def next time, used just the normal grip, cant do the hook thingie at all. 110kg is my best with right hand with official powerlifting bar (28mm thick).

  • @remeju

Thanks man. Thumbless grip is fun to train.

  • Damn. looked easy man. keep up the good work.

  • Thank Jedd! Good to hear from you man! I have good days and really good days if I'm lucky, lol.

  • Thats impressive, I never tried it that was, I always do it like a conventional DL,... I'm gunna have to add that in next workout....

  • Thanks Adam, you've got a solid deadlift (mid-500s+) so you will do well on this lift. Do you keep a public training log?

  • You really ought to give it a try man. Has a really nice feel to it and definitely has some carryover to any kind of one-hand deadlifting you might want to test yourself on. Some of the best thumbless-grip one-hand deadlifters are also the best one-hand deadlifters with a hook grip, and without.

  • Great stuff Ben, never thought of using a thumbless grip for the dead. May be just what I need! Cheers

  • Thanks Paul! It's really one of those lifts where a weight will feel easy and then you go up 10lbs and it's suddenly welded to the platform.

  • looked easy for you - you got ten more no prob - congrats!
