This is a Samhain/Halloween poem I wrote four years ago and put to music a few days ago.

(Am)Magick night, (G)moonlight bright
Pumpkins shine, carved so (Am)fine.
Young and old dress (G)up this night
Costumes cute and some for (Am)fright.

Treats and tricks and food galore
Spiders, skeletons, and gore
Lots of fun and shivers too
Don't forget some witches' brew!

But (D)don't forget the veil is thin
Between the worlds this night we're (Am)in
(D)Honour those who've passed beyond
Raise a toast and say, "So (E7)long!"

Merry Meet and Merry Part
We'll meet again someday, dear hearts.
Come ye back now, join the fun
One year gone, a new begun!

(repeat last verse)

  • Oh my goodness this is one of my favourites ever. I love this song! Do people ever do covers of your songs? Would you mind sharing the chords? It's such a beautiful poem and song! I love Samhain/Halloween!

  • Oh! Someone else asked about the chords: in the verses: Am and G, back and forth. In the bridge: D Am D E7. Then back to Am and G pattern. :-) I'd be honoured if you'd want to do a cover!

  • Cats always land on their feet.

Bread always lands butter side down.

The paper will always fall in the middle of the song.

I like the feel of this. The tune and language make it feel hundreds of years old. Very cool.

  • Heh. I wish I could memorize all my songs so I wouldn't have to deal with sheets of paper, but I just don't have that big a brain! :-P I'm glad you enjoyed the song--and thank you for the kind comments. :-)

  • Your poem works fantastic as a song (and how fitting for the time of year). Great performance!

  • Thank you very much! :-)

  • Thank you. I will remember to do that :)

  • I'm sorry to hear that. In Pagan belief, this is the day when we do remember and honour those who have passed over.

  • Great song- dont really like halloween cos I actually did lose someone on that day, but as you say, using it to remember them could be a good thing :)

  • Thanks very much!
