  • One of Leo's funniest lines ever.

  • This is very early, as the team first moves in to the West Wing, and we're looking at the "invention" of the walk-and-talk shot that quickly came to represent this show. "Do you mind if I talk to you while we walk?" "Well, we may as well get used to having meetings in the corridors from now on..."

  • @bornbillsmith- and the idea that the president should have someone on his staff who can advise him on racial matters is ridiculous. in essence, presidents should have one person for every ethnic minority in the country? as a smart lady told me(thanks, mom), the mark of a wise man isn't to necessarily know the answer, but to know how to get it. i think the president would be able to find people to advise him on racial matters.

  • @bornbillsmith- so your issue isn't that there weren't role models(even though that's what you said), but that they didn't have a big enough role on the show. the admiral started in the military when anti-integration arguments were the same as those used now to dadt nonsense. charlie had a challenging start to life, but worked directly with the president. actually those are the role models i want on tv.

  • @bornbillsmith- they did see positive role models. if those role models need to be black to order be effective, then that's the watcher's issue. you have no idea whether they cared if black people watched the program, and since that is the case you cannot provide an 'as if'.

  • @bornbillsmith- pretty presumptious posts. if anything, your idea sounds like tokenism. all having a black character in the president's inner circle would have done is show how the network was pandering. there is zero reason to think that any president would have a black person on the staff.

  • @Lawmaster1702 Very minor characters.

Admiral Fitzwallace couldn't have been on the program more then a handful of times.

Charlie wasn't even a college graduate.

He wasn't much more then a servant.

The President should have had someone on his staff who can advise him on racial matters.

    Be honest

    I loved the show.

    it could have been better.

  • @bornbillsmith There were major charecters who are black in President Bartletts staff, Charlie being the main one. Admiral Fitzwallace, Chairman of the Joint Cheifs, was also black.

  • @jesusthroughmary bornbillsmith was referring to the senior staff of the show, being Leo, Josh, Toby, CJ, and Sam.

  • @bornbillsmith The public never sees the staff. Those are "his" people. The Cabinet is another story. Did he appoint minorities to the Cabinet? We did have ADM Fitzwallace as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.

  • I think it should bother people more then profiling is that even on a program written by liberals about a President who is liberal they didnt make any of the major characters black.

I can't say this definitely but I would think in real life there would be black people on the staff for a President like Barlett

They had the opportunity to give Black people a positive role model.

It also shows they didn't care if Black people watched the program as if they believe they're not smart enough..
