Whilst I think it'd be better that guns were not here at all, nobody can uninvent the gun. And prohibition laws only apply to those who agree with them. If there's a supply and demand, the law wont stop these things, drugs, prostitution, guns ect. It simply means, these things are controlled by criminals, and more likley bad people. There was a dutch guy I think who said, it's better to have a gun and never need to use one than to need one and not have one.

Hmmm...good point, I actually agree with JoshFi but also you on the Nazi Germany thing. That's the first thing they asked Jewish people, to give up their guns. It was a massive disarmament and they went into concentration camps without a fight. But I also have to give it to JoshFi on the Columbine, V Tech, etc. I am not for guns and even less when this means giving the power to western-style thugs or gangsters.

not many people bring their guns with them into service fo our country. bad things happen, tragedies really, and we have to keep going. should we ban driving, and cars? they kill more people than anything. responsibility is the key here. The constitution and our bill of rights are for our protection. It is better to have a weapon and not need it, rather than the alternative.

The arguement for not banning handguns is that handguns will inevitably get into the hands of criminals anyways, this is unavoidable, so what you can do for the citizenry is allow them to arm themselves to protect themselves. And to do that they need to be able to match the weaponry of the criminals...and the government. The second most important part is the "in case of revolution" idea,m being as armed as our government is a step to prevent them from dominating us with totalitarian force.
