It definitely depends on how you grow up! I am very jealous! I have grown up in Australia and unless your parents speak a second language at home, most Aussies are monolingual, myself included. I really wish I could speak another language...and now I am grown up, it is up to me to transfer the words "I wish" to "I can". You see, at home, some members of my family consider learning other languages as a waste of time...so I definitely wasn't encouraged as a child.

I can speak 5 languages myself learning only 1 extra with 4 being default. It all depends on where you live and how often you interact with foreigners. I speak French, English, Arabic, Kreole and Russian (the one I learned).
