what year trucks is this on?

wow if that rubber fails going down the road and it grabs that shaft, your transfer case is gonna blow,i had that happen with the electronic system on a exploder.it tried to engage it and it bombed the transfer case.

Anyone know of a good video on how to tear this iwe system apart at the wheel and replace it so I can get my 4x4 working again, I've never been so frustrated with a vehicle as I have been with my piece of shit 2004 F150 FX4, if I can't find a good video on how to fix it I may just light it on fire and collect the insurance money lol

junk .4x4

@burnedchicken2, That's what is happening to my 04 as I type. I'm not even through paying for my truck yet and to put icing on the cake I'm being laid off of my job. No funds to fix my 200+$ problem.

TERRIBLE design - my 2006 f150 has had the iwe solenoid replaced twice. When it fails, the front drivetrain gets spun by the wheels. I drove a couple thousand miles w/o knowing it had failed. This destroyed the transfer case and hubs. (truck has less than 50k miles). This system should fail to 2wd drive, not to locked! I've had many other problems, and very poor service. I will NEVER buy another ford truck.

Vacuum is not the way to go for a 4x4 system, leak and will not work.Ford's 4x4 systems are expensive to fix and complicated.GM's system is simple and easy to fix.Just had a customer take his 2006 Ford to the dealer for the 4x4 system problem, computer took a dump
-
what they don't tell you is moisture can migrate down that vacuum line and corrode the inside of that diaphragm...and prevent the locking collar from working properly. That amounts to grinding the heck out of your wheel hub.....
wow, thats a vacum gun and its a vaccum diaphram. its very simple and very cheap technology. old and proven but used in a new way. if it breaks its just a matter of replacing some rubber. i dont know how ford does it. the things they come up with make me scratch my head sometimes. its just wierd.

@FRDMAN27 if ur Toyota had a ford 302 V8 in it it wasn't stock. Thus parts weren't 100% compatible but cobbled together to create a fit. The Ford 302 motor was a good motor but was not made for the Toyota. Im guessing it was an old school tundra which was a 9/10 compared to a full size and was not made to have a 302 in or it was a Tacoma go figure why you did what you did. Lastly "Twisted Drive Shaft" how many burnouts, dumping the clutch you do its pretty easy to twist a drive shaft that way.
