All over the world people's right to freedom of expression and rule of law is being subjected to threats, harassment and enforced disappearance in their struggle for human rights.

The death penalty is the most extreme form of cruel and degrading treatment, and it is also irreversible. The death penalty is not a punishment - it is a crime.

Torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment occurs in two thirds of all countries, despite international bans. Torture is a violation of human rights. It is a deliberate, premeditated attack on a single individual's psyche, body and dignity.
