An 1987 recording of the sign-off used by the ABC network station for the Hampton Roads area of Virginia (Portsmouth, Norfolk, Newport News, Virginia Beach) during the 1970s and 1980s. A rather unique feature of this sign-off is that the announcer mentions several local and regional newspapers that carries the program listings for WVEC-TV. The video montage segment features scenes of nature and the Hampton Roads area. Also featured are some scenes of Colonial Williamsburg, which is also part of the area. The two historic buildings seen are the Govenor's Palace and the Capitol (Williamsburg was the second capital of the Virginia Colony, the first was Jamestown). Both buildings are 1930s reconstructions of the original early-18th century structures. WVEC-TV originally telecast on UHF Channel 15 and was affiliated with the NBC network during its first six years (1953-59). Channel 15 was reactivated in 1961 when Virginia's first educational station, WHRO-TV, signed on the air.
