For Super Bowl XLII, N.Y. Giants VS. N.E. Patriots, Pepsi is running a commercial using all deaf actors entitled Bob's House. Here are four videos to go along with this campaign of reaching out to the deaf community. Three of these video clips show a Giants fan, played by Justin Callaway, and a Patriots fan, played by Deaf culture comedian Keith Wann, talking smack to each other in sign language about what team is going to win and how good teams from their respected cities are. A fourth clip shows Keith Wann telling the story of how the huddle became part of football history.

  • niice commerical! wow.. i see below that people are actually sad they are Deaf. come on! cherish your culture and heritage. I am Deaf, sign ASL and came from a Deaf family. One thing i have learned is that if you dont accept yourself and love your culture, then how would you expect other people Hearing or Deaf to accept you?

  • Butterflyhazel70...You didnt't miss it. The companies decided not to showed them on television for thier own reason. However, I caught the news station being at the Deaf Club stating that it was an opportunity, great challenge and a chance to show the deaf community that they are simply human. I wished it was televised as well. :-)

It is sort of like a culture war, since hearing people are always trying to "cure" deafness. Did you know that 95% of the children who are born deaf, their parents are hearing? The parents usually know nothing about deaf culture, seeing deafness as a disability, the children are implanted with a cochlear implant and taught to speak. They grow up usually not learning sign language. Now sign language is dwindling, thats probably why you dont see many deaf people using sign.

  • It's not polite to talk with your hands full... haha thats cute I like that :-) This is cool!! love it!

  • I don't understand something. Why does it seem that deaf people are highly concerned with what 'hearing people' think? It's like there's a culture war or something, when nobody I know talks trash about 'the deafs'.

In fact I rarely ever see anyone signing or know any deaf people in real life. Where are they hiding? And why does it seem they either have a grudge against hearing people, or they think we hearing people see them as 'retards'?

I don't, nobody I know does, so what gives?
