Unique guitar interpretation of the "Arabian Coffee Dance" by Stevan Pasero ... the coffee dance is one of the many wonderful dances found within "The Nutcracker Ballet" Music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaicovsky... Nutcracker Suite (for Guitar) Stevan Pasero,

Please enjoy and wishing everyone a Happy Holiday, 2010 and Joyous New Year, 2011!

The music, story, and ballet of The Nutcracker is enjoyed by many, worldwide, especially during the holiday season. In the story, the main character, Clara, receives a special gift ... a beautiful Nutcracker which was meant for breaking open hazelnut shells. Clara''s brother, also intrigued by this new gift, quickly grabs it and in his haste, it is carelessly broken.

Later that evening, the guests depart the Stahlbaum home and the family retires to sleep. Clara is worried about her beloved Nutcracker, and she sneaks back to the tree to check on him, falling asleep with the toy in her arms.
The clock strikes midnight and strange things begin to happen. In her dream, Clara begins to shrink and the Christmas tree grows high above her. Toys around the tree come to life while the room fills with an army of mice lead by a Mouse King.

As the Nutcracker awakens, he leads his army of toy soldiers into battle with the mice. The Mouse King corners the Nutcracker and battles him one-on-one., but the Nutcracker seems to be no match for the King. The Nutcracker and his army can go on no longer and are captured by the mice and their King.

Clara makes a final daring charge throwing her slipper at the King and hitting him square in the head. The Mouse King drops to the floor and the mice run away, carrying off their leader's lifeless body.

The Nutcracker turns into a Prince and takes Clara on a journey to a land of snow and a forest wonderland where they are welcomed by dancing snowflakes. The Prince then escorts Clara to the land of sweets where they are greeted by the Sugar Plum Fairy.

The Prince tells her about their daring battle with the army of mice, and she rewards them with a celebration of special dances. The dances represent items that were considered a rare specialty... these dances included: Spanish (Chocolate) Dance, Arabian (Coffee) Dance, Russian (Candy Cane) Dance, Chinese (Tea) Dance, The Mirliton (mushroom) Dance, and finally The Waltz of Flowers.

In this rendition of the Arabian Coffee Dance there are scenes from the ballet as well as examples of arabesque motif in dance, art, and architecture. The coffee plant originated in Arabia centuries ago and coffee was brewed there by scholars to help them stay awake long into the night for completing their studies. Coffee was also offered as a form of hospitality and refreshment to travellers on long, arduous desert journeys. Arabica style coffee is often brewed with with spices such as cardamon, cinnamon and cloves.
