Here we turn back the clock to 1956 and drop in on a different world as seen through the lens of an 8mm film movie camera. It is a world without T.V. or the Internet. Kids did not have Play Stations, but they did have Railway Stations that were points of departure for an exciting ride to magical places that were real. The drinking age was 21 and drugs were something you bought from the Chemist/Pharmacy store if you were sick. In a small town like Mount Morgan social networking meant having many friends that you associated with on a physical level and once a year the whole town went on a picnic.

  • Wonderful video. I was born in Mount Morgan and lived there until I married and my parents lived there for over 50 years . It was lovely to see the old miners picnic. I remember having to give the tickets over for drinks, lollies, biscuits etc every family was given a certain amount depending how many there were. The train ride to Emu Park (where I now live) was thrilling. I wasn't at this particular picnic but I was in later years. Memories

  • @Gwendoline277 Thanks for the comment. It all seems light years away now.

  • outstanding

  • @MrYnotjames Thanks for the comment - from way out there in the Alice.

  • I'm a 29 year old Mt Morgan-born and resident. Elelments of the videos are very familiar to me because even after I was born (1981) some of the events was still on like the dam day out. I remember playing in the daft race. Remembered seeing helicopters come and actually land and demostrate rescue tactics. Had fun train rides (sometimes FREE!). been to almost every GMF almost each year (this year's video in my YT profile). And important thing is - I'm still here in Mount Morgan. :)

  • @ozgeek81 Thanks for the comment. It's good to see you actually support the old town by living there. It is amazing how it still keeps going despite losing losing its major industry. That's what makes it so special I guess.

  • @nleeder Thanks Noel. When we make the inevitable comparisons with today, it is sad to realise that a film like that could not be made now due the restrictions placed on the use of cameras.

  • Brilliant nostalgia, Barry and Roger! What 1960s memories your footage evokes of the simple pleasures of those more innocent days of yore! Mount Morgan had then what so many people wish they had today! Billy tea, egg & spoon races, balloon and sugar bag races, jiving, a swim and a happy but tired ride home on a wonderful old steam train! Just think about it - what does today offer compared with the joys of a Mount Morgan Picnic Day! Your old 8mm camera recorded an era we all sadly miss!

  • @bigeeezy Many thanks for your comment.

  • @nameofthepen Thanks for your comment. It is good to be able to look back, and to show others, how things were.
