  • Can anyone tell me if you need a specific NAS box for it to work with Apple TV 2, or in theory should any NAS box work? I’m asking because im looking at setting this gig up using a NAS dongle, with an external hard drive plugged in to it via built in USB ports on the NAS box! It works out much cheaper too!

  • @actrapide - You can't stream straight from a NAS to AppleTV2 without something in between, like a iPad/iPhone/iPod or Mac computer.

The other option is to Jailbreak your AppleTV and install XBMC (see my other videos for a guide).

Make sure the NAS has a built in DLNA server.

  • Good video. There are a number of ways to do it, but you can also use the free "DS File" iOS application from Synology, scroll to your movie file, click open, and then hit the air play icon.
