I am not sure that, even if they received enough money, that the Zoo could have provided sufficient space and the natural environment that an elephant needs (I am not saying the Zoo did not put in efforts).

@edwarski I hope you read my message but because you left yours a year ago you may not read it . I have been so upset about lack of space at the Phili Zoo and I know the animals are loved but I have always said in my heart the confined space for all the animals and wildlife there is just awful

The elephant arent at the zoo anymore...

thats really sad and she didnt need to die
i wish they would make some changes there. at least the rest are going to a better home. I recall the tiger used to live in a wire cage so at least there is hope...

Yep. The Philly Zoo lies to the public.

Don 't worry - Kallie and Bette will either die at the Philly Zoo or the breeding facility where the zoo plans to send them.

Petal died after collapsing in the cement barn on a sweltering June day at 4 am. Since no one was there monitoring her(unlike at true sanctuaries, where caregivers montior 24/7), even tho Petal hadn't lain down for years - a sure sign of problems - she was stuck in the cement barn until the keepers arrived the next morning at 7 a.m. By then it was too late (if elephants are down for more than two or three hours, it causes circulation/respiratory problems) and she died at 9 a.m.

didnt one of them did from a heat stroke?

i remember this issue came up in like 2006 or 2005, and they were supposed to be gone by 07. Then it was delayed, and they never left. there's still elephants at the zoo today.
Not enough people cared. Or cared enough.
