GIMP: Free Alternative to Photoshop

Hello, this is Blue Steel of Pollyticks.com. GIMP is a great open source program to edit and retouch your digital photos and other images, but the key thing to remember is that it's completely free. In features it compares well to the $79 pricetag Adobe sticks on Photoshop Elements 5.0.

In this beginner's hands-on look at GIMP, I highlight some of its features and walk you through retouching a digital photo.

I use GIMP, along with other programs like ComicLife and Flash, to produce the political cartoons and artwork on Pollyticks.com.

You guys just stop going on about how Photoshop is better than Gimp, of course it would be! Otherwise, Gimp wouldn't be free. Gimp is pretty much the FREE alternative to Photoshop, not an exact copy.

I haven't tried Gimp yet, but I know people who do amazing things with that program. So it IS possible to do stuff with it as ling as your willing to try

Gimp is retarded. It freezes, and the tool quality is crap.

It's free because it's cheap. I'm saying this with only knowledge of the CS1, and Photoshop Elemets version 4.0 and 5.0.

Clearly I am not a person who uses the advanced CS4 and CS5, but I can tell you that with Gimp you will be wasting your time. I had it freeze for no reason on my brand new computer twice during a coloring session and I was done with it.

Are there any "How To" instructions? This is fabulous, unfortunately I dont have time to sit infront of a computer trying to figure out how to use it.
