Dr. James Pruchniewski, MS, DPM, FACFAOM
Dr. Jim was born in Buffalo, NY. He received his B.S in Biology at Niagara University and an M.S at Canisius College. After teaching science in public schools for 12 years, Dr. Jim moved to Chicago where he graduated from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in 1986. He completed his residency in Tampa at the James Haley V.A Medical Center.
While mountain climbing in 1977, he was trapped in a blizzard and suffered third-degree frostbite. Fortunately, the U.S Olympic ski team was training at Lake Placid, where he was taken to the hospital. The team's podiatrist actually kept him from undergoing an amputation, choosing instead an alternative treatment. Today his feet are fine thanks to the skill and knowledge of that foot specialist. This experience convinced him to leave teaching and become a podiatrist.
Since opening his office, Dr. Jim has continued his education and is Board Certified in: -Podiatric Orthopedics -Podiatric Surgery -Primary Care in Podiatric Medicine -Prevention and Treatment of Diabetic Foot Wounds
He is certified by the William L. Goldfarb Foundation with the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Diagnostic ultrasound of the foot and ankle and is certified in extra corporial shock wave therapy for the treatment of heel spurs. He is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine and a member of the American Academy of Pain Management. Dr. Jim has published research papers in "The Foot" and "The Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association". He has lectured to physicians as far away as Tasmania. Dr. Jim has been on medical mercy missions to Romania and Cuba. His published papers include works on Restless Legs Syndrome and new approaches to treating heel pain.
