Hello,
Many will disagree with my rant here, but please either read the description or listen to all of this video before telling me that I am wrong. I welcome different opinions
Should the Burka be banned?
Many people in the UK at the moment are calling for the burka to be banned, some of this may be racism but the popular thing at the moment is to claim that it has nothing to do with race, and that has some weight to it - you don't have to be a racist to feel that there are separate rules for minorities.
I think it is perfectly fair to argue that Muslims should be able to wear their head-gear, because this country is supposed to be a free country, and anything that distorts freedom will only lead us further down the path of us living in an open-air prison. Something that many feel threatened by is young men in their hoodies, gangs of lads loitering and intimidating the vulnerable while having the advantage of remaining quite anonymous, rightly so; it makes the job of the police much more difficult to identify a mugger or vandal when they all look the same and have the same monosyllabic communication skills. But, many teenagers will insist that they wear these garments because they like them, and that it has nothing to do becoming invisible for crime purposes.
Surveillance cameras are everywhere, we are used to them, to the extent that we don't even notice their presence, and anyone whose identity isn't clear gets targeted as doing something dodgy, and many will continually the phrase, "if you're not doing anything wrong you've nothing to worry about", while forgetting that wearing a hat or hoodie isn't actually doing anything wrong.
Blue Water shopping centre famously denied entrance to hoodie wearers a few years back, but I bet some of the shops in they centre sell them.
I've heard about a few cases of men dressing up as women complete with a burka to hold up banks, and this has caused more outrage and pressure to ban the burka, but how is banning it going to help -- the perpetrator's real crime here is committing robbery, nobody suggested banning ladies' tights in the 70's, or Ronald Regan masks in the 80's, so why should we taking this seriously, anyone who is going to rob a bank is going to wear some sort mask! It's pathetic that some people think that the burka should be banned for reasons like these.
So, burkas and hoodies are not the problem, but something else is!
Personally I have as much respect for the Muslims as I do for Catholics and Christians, I respect them all as people, but they are living in a dream world, because religion equates to ignorance, arrogance, and most of all, lack of empathy for the people who are not stupid enough to be fooled by it.
It's about time that we put the dark ages in the past, and do away with religion all together. I have no problem with anyone having what beliefs they like, but surely religion should be treated as a personal thing rather than having government funding and special treatment, there are real issues in this and every other country that should take priority, and while so many are living in poverty, why are we spending public money on new churches, mosques, security and ware-fare?
While there are people dying of nasty diseases because the cost of care and drugs are so high, there are billions being donated to pompous organisations by numpties for the sake of personal idiocy.
In schools, RE is compulsory, and I can think of nothing more backward than teaching children something that has no proof and causes people to hate each other. If it was an option that'd be fair enough, but common sense isn't taught, and values, decency and respect are all important character traits that have been left in the past in place of knowing your rights, and arming the most vicious of numbskulls with clauses that turn them from scoundrels to innocent villains and thugs.
Whatever other countries' rules are, in Britain we are tolerant, we try to treat people equally, so why can't we take it a step further and get rid of the one thing that ruins everybody's lives, and get rid of this notion that religion is a good thing?
@nickgriffern There are differences between Catholic and C of E. Catholics see themselves as Christians in many cases, but it doesn't really work the other way around. Perhaps you should do a little research; what you said is like saying that Mormons are the same as Jehovah's witnesses.
