This is some video footage of my motorcycle South American travel (Argentina, Chile and Perú) in 2010.

On board videos were made with a Drift x170 on-board camera (lowest quality settings as space was a concern). The camera is perfect for all conditions. Really nice toy!!

Some of the videos were made with a Canon Ixus 85 IS

The song in the video is the incredibly rocking-socks-off 'Prehistoric Dog' by Red Fang.

Everything was put together with PiTiVi 13.3. It is a little bit simple, but at least works and does not show the performance problems that 13.4 has now while editing/previewing. However I could not get rid of some imperfections such as 'ghost frames' in some of the cuts. So I had to do the final rendering on version 13.4.

The time-lapse bit was created with scripts found in these pages

Thanks for watching!!
hello... so im planning on taking a similar trip myself, its on a bmw 650. just not the gs version... how plausible is this? and and bits of advice?

@soundersfcfanatic The motorcycle is not that important. If it is bigger, it will allow you to go faster and it will be more comfortable, but it is definitely doable on an F650.
Of course I could give you advice, and also put you in contact with motorcycle renting companies there. Just ask any specific questions you have :)

@teaco well what kind of gear did you take? as in clothing? any modifications done to the bike? mine is a carbed bike so i was a little concerned if this would prove to be a problem.. what do you think?

@soundersfcfanatic I was there March - April, travelling from south (patagonia, as low as 2-4 ºC) to north (atacama, over 35 ºC). I was wearing a cordura winter suit, gore-tex inner lining. Sometimes also wind-stopper underwear (only a couple of days). Definitely too hot in the north for that gear. I would recommend a suit with lining removable. I do not know much about Carbed bikes. Mine was rented. But why would that be a problem? Prepare your bike for off-road riding, you will have much of it

Your video is amazingly smooth... what camera do you use? Are you doing anything to smooth out the video? Awesome video, I've been wanting to ride through Peru for awhile. I just got back from a 4,000 mile solo ride up the Pacific Coast from Mexico to Canada. You can check it out on my channel if you get a second.

@YoungAmericanOutback The camera was an x170 by drift innovation... but some of the videos were made with a canon ixus (it is all in the description ;) I did not modify the footage to try to smooth it or anything.
BTW, nice trip. I would love to ride the USA at some point :)
