This is part 9 of a single segment run through Banjo-Kazooie. This run was completed on an NTSC N64 console.

NOTE: The skip in sound after I was transformed back into Banjo & Kazooie after the pumpkin wore off was because this is where I had to pause and change discs.

Here I go back to Freezeezy to finish boggy race number two. As I said in my IL video, I purposely stop at that same point on every run and let him get ahead. Rubber-banding really helps you out on these races. If you stay ahead of him all the way until the home stretch he'll often pass you up the hill and ruin your whole run.

The good news: Immediately after leaving the level I hit the flight pad switch and get the jiggy in Gruntilda's right eye. This part is really tricky for me. In order to get the jiggy while flying and continuing to fly, you need to have a really good angle into the jiggy and need to use a feather at the proper time. This is the first time I pulled off this on a full run, but it saves quite a bit of time. If you land in the eye after getting the jiggy, you'll have to back-track all the way to the Freezeezy Peak entrance and re-hit the flight pad switch and run all the way back to the flight pad. Luckily, I did this very well and got both jiggy pieces while in flight.

The bad news: About 1 minute later, I give back everything I gained by doing a section of Gruntilda's Lair well. While trying to raise the water, I have some obvious troubles trying to get back to the platform with the switch. All of this could have been avoided if I hadn't pecked to break the box and would have pounded on it instead. I've never had a rat-a-tat move take me off of the platform, but it did happen here after the box broke. The jump to reach the platform has to be precise and the off center camera angle kept aiding in my failures to get back there. This was a disappointing part of the run for me because it should have all been avoided.

The final world times for this single segment run were as follows:

Spiral Mountain 2:14
Mumbo's Mountain 5:47
Treasure Trove Cove 9:21
Clanker's Cavern 11:10
Bubblegloop Swamp 14:28
Freezeezy Peak 14:48
Gobi's Valley 13:19
Mad Monster Mansion 12:59
Rusty Bucket Bay 14:15
Click Clock Wood 23:21
Gruntilda's Lair 34:19

The total game time after completion of the boss was 2 hours 36 minutes and 1 second (2:36:01) I am very pleased with the final time and the run itself. The requirements for 100% consisted of getting all 900 music notes, all 100 Jiggy's, all 24 honeycomb pieces and beating the final boss of the game.

  • never mind you got it

  • You do know that you can get the eye jiggy without the flight by jumping from the hat to the nose, right? That approach is significantly faster than a round trip to and from the flight pad, although much slower than what you did in this video.
