Might of the Shaman:

Tsajuska got me a pad and dressed up as a white bride before winter came. She was afraid that i'd freeze to death. It's nice here and beauty is in the house.

It's said to be difficult giving up booze and smoking. Finnish sailors have always been dreaded on the seas, because we have been told to have secret powers. We don't, but we

are tough and hardened by powers of nature. It must be nearly impossible for softies to give up these substances, because they do have mighty powers. I however decided to give

them up, or should I say I had to give them up, when I realised that they lead nowhere: The enviroment is damaged and by quitting you get to face death clear-mindedly and

painlessly. Still, this required a lot of guts, and guts I have. It's terrible to think that this kind of genetic, lethal illness has been exploited and downgraded for

hundreds of years.

We have watched idly as this illness, hidden behind an obscure name, has deprived many people of family, job, motorics, speech, cognitive skills, cleanliness... everything, to

be frank. And is then passed on to the next generation. Sure, it creates a cash flow, even from beyond the grave.

It seemed reasonable to concentrate on one thing at a time. I chose liquor.

There are many faces for us winos: There are boozers, closet-drunks, social drinkers, those with a habit for a weekend-smash, cocksmen and violent drunkards.

Many kinds of beverages are ingested: from aftershave to moonshine, and everything in between. One thing, however separates a drunk from an alcoholic: the infamous Other man.

It only takes one bottle of beer to bring this fellow to the surface in an alcoholic. When the Other man is present, anything can, and will happen.
I quit drinking, that's an act of great strength. First, you must naturally admit to yourself that you are an alcoholic. Then you'll have to think wether or not you're a man,

besides the fact that you have testicles. Now after beig sober for fifteen years, I can safely say that after admitting those two things, two other things are also required.

There are two dangers.

First you need a job. A job that you can do and that's appealing. The reward is your life. You also need to change your social circle, because your friends were at the pub.

Hobbies can be chosen. I did'n have to; my life is my work. I couldn't speak about work in the pub, I had to talk shit. Then there are two dangers that must be averted. First,

that you become a religious nut. Secondly, that you become a tight-ass. In fact, all means are acceptable, the end justifies them. This is a decision that you'll never have to

regret.

In quitting smoking, I received encouraging help from the Witch-woman, Tsajuska. This apartment she got for me was agreed as a front-payment for non-smokingness. There were no

options: health, woman, apartment versus endless night-coughing, loss of money, and an early grave. So I quit smoking as I set foot in my new home on 1. october. It has been

almost two months. It doesn't take any patches, pills, chewing gums or shrinks. All it takes is a beautiful woman and common sense. Of course you have to measure up as a man.

What then is the measure of a man? Quite simply, you have to be able to make decisions and stand behind them. The reward is a richer life. Besides, you'll smell better.

The Shaman's Medal can be bought from me under the name of "common man" any time. It took two acts to quit booze, and there were two risk factors. It only took the resolve to

make decisions to quit smoking. Easy. One-two-three-four, like music.
