Yeah, I went to mass every week and Catholic school 5 days a week until my OACs. Ever heard of Catholics for Choice?
Last time I checked I had no visual impairment of any kind. Multiplying cells does not necessarily equal a full blown organism. I don't think my child became my child until at least way into the 2nd trimester.
There's no getting around the fact that a human life starts at conception and abortion is a planned killing of this "potential person" as you call these children. Planned killing of a humans is also called murder. Go look up an ultrasound, if you think that the latin synonym for child is not human and that they should be killed even after seeing a baby in the womb sucking his/her thumb at 8 weeks, then you're crazy.
Growing up "catholic" doesn't mean anything, did you even read the Catechism or celebrate mass every week?
You actually claim that humanity does not begin at conception? last time I checked everyone alive today is alive because their life started at their conception. You ignore prenatal developmental science and trade it for philosophy. Get philosophy out of this. Conception is biological fact how can you possibly ignore that fact while looking at your child in the eyes? Are you blind?
joeb0 - I see the fetus/embryo as a *potential person*. Much like a walnut isn't a tree. Plucking a walnut from a tree is not the same as taking an axe and felling the whole tree.
Not every seed that gets planted will grow. Very few zygotes actually even implant inside the womb. Women can conceive and spontaneously abort without realizing it. Every time I menstruate there's a chance my body is flushing out a fertilized egg. Should I take bereavement leave every time I have my period?
joeb0 - I grew up Roman Catholic. I think that the modern church & some of it's teachings are wrong. Condoms are not a sin. Homosexual sex is good. Sex does not require marriage. Marriage can happen without church sanction. Same sex marriage is good. Humanity/personhood does not begin at conception. I don't think my *life* is something that turns on and off like a light switch. We come into life and consciousness gradually. Death is also a gradual process that we don't fully understand yet.

What makes you think condoms and homosexuality is good? What makes you think that some of the churches teachings are bad?

I've had a few ultrasounds when I was pregnant. I enjoyed looking at the images because I wanted to be pregnant and was happy to be pregnant.
Not all women are happy to be pregnant. Not all women want to give birth.
Not all women want (or are able) to parent.
I say respect and support women who choose to be parents. Respect and support also, those women who choose not to give birth and/or parent.
