The British Empire was totally indifferent to the catastrophic Irish famine 1845-50, which reduced the population from 8 million to 4.5 million, through starvation and emigration, mostly to North America. Britain's destruction of Ireland was genocidal and utterly racist. Scotland will leave the UK for other reasons, but it will leave the UK eventually.

so many ignorant and deluded idiots here, englishness is for people who wish to be identified with england via its traditions customs and principles , if you r born here or not and regardless of colour you would be welcome unlike as my experience in scottland , ireland or wales they have not matured enough in my view to welcome the english in their country as they believe we the english are occupiers like some army, grow up we welcome you all here in england

you're definately not english are you. the british empire was the basically the biggest, the most powerful and the most developed. they made many countries into what they are. india for example, where would they be without the british empire? the british empire did nto rape and screw the world over, the empire is argueably the best thing thats happened to our planet, bringing technology and development to the entire world.
