I genuinely think she has some very good insights, but I find her presentation to be somewhat unclear, incoherent, and rather ineffective overall. She didn't sell me. She is also difficult to follow because she speaks without pause or any vocal fluctuations, and throws in too many biographical side comments and jokes. I found her presentation style to distract from what she is actually saying. However, this video and its comments have piqued my interest enough to look into her work.

Can you ever truly create something that is completely? -new hence creating something out of nothing? Although I think I may possibly be misunderstanding what she is saying. However, it seems to me that lately when I create my little creative projects I have hard being completely new with a project. I usually use alot of influence and inspiration and then put my own spin on that. Am I the only one here?

She has Lyme Disease and suffers from bad hallucinations so half the time she doesn't know wtf is going on or wtf she's talking about. (See "Joy Luck Club")

Eating ticks for a snack is not a good idea and neither is this seminar of hers.

Superstitious Mumbo Jumbo. What is she doing on TED? (Technology, Entertainment and Design, it doesn't say superstition)

Amy Tan is one of my favorite authors, but I have to agree with the comments here that criticize the coherence of this presentation. Most of her points and personal illustrations find such coherence in her book The Opposite Of Fate. Of course she has much more time to develop those ideas in that memoir than she has in these few minutes..

I must agree with you. Every writer has his/her own personality...he/she develops his/her voice along the writing process. Her kind of writing made her distinct from any other writers, and that's what made her stand out.
