PART 3 OF 3: Building a lean-to wilderness shelter in snowy and cold conditions...good times! There are numerous shelters that you can construct in these northern, mountainous woods and this is one of them. It does require a fair amount of time, calories, and preferably some tools to get the job done. But the task itself is relatively simple. Many topics are discussed including the survival mindset and training, site selection, construction techniques, knife and tool usage (and breakage!), clothing and glove considerations, flashlights (Fenix L2D), common sense environmentalism, food procurement, etc. Conditions were adequately challenging with temperatures eventually dropping to 18F and snow continually falling. Allie the Mountain was the faithful companion on the outing.

  • In part 1 you said you hiked 3 1/2 miles from where you parked your truck...So you just hiked out 3 1/2 miles in the dark ???

  • @DuvalVideo He does that often...flashlights. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • I can't believe he does this stuff on a work night. Who does that? This man is insane. In a good way.

  • @gaozhi2007 I couldn't agree more. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • Damn! That was fun. Felt like I was there. Great video. Going out in two days to tread lightly in the snow. Little survival practice, little campfire and cooking and a whole bunch of quiet time. You are so right that banging around in the woods gets you comfortable. Going to be in the low teens this weekend and knowing I have the right gear and can maximize the utiltiy of all of it makes it all good. But, I'm learning every time I'm out.

Thank you for the videos. Later.

  • @muskietime Hope you had a great time and stay safe on your outings! -- Veri

  • @MrJoeyBoombotz thumbs this up because I was thinking the same thing :)

  • I watched this series when you made it 4 years ago. It is one of my favorites. I noticed you made a mistake, I think you'd want to know about. The ridge pole is on the wrong side of the tree. It should 'lean into' the 2 trees rather that be on the outside where it would take much less effort to bring it down. The backsupports, cross membsers and thatching weight will 'lean into' the ridge pole and tree thrunks keeping it more in place with pressure. Love all your work. Fantastic public service.

  • @Butchrknife Baha, that was the dog you dummy.

Nutn, you should do an update on this lean to, I'd like to see how it's holding up after all this time..!

  • Does Ellie the dog have snow shoes or something to protect her paw?. Must be cold hiking through the snow. Great video and I love your work. Thanks.

  • @Butchrknife did you not notice the yellow parka on his dog in the other vids??

  • WOW at 6:16 I saw a yellow truck? Anyone else see that? So he hikes in 3 1/2 miles along side a road.. I notice you like things that have numbers in the name like your light and you knifes. Nutn but numbers.

  • @saevaroa 6:14,,,,that's his dog.

  • This video is great but at 6:14 in the left corner i see a yellow car going by. I thought you said this was remote. But the skills are good and I like what you are doing. Keep up the good work.

  • lookin forward to the conclusion of this.
