I think this is really a great video.

The cargo culture example brought up by Jeff epitomize nicely the shallowess of the vast majority of social media designers or experts.

It should be the starting pitch of every design class!

steal the ideas from youtube, facebook, twitter, digg, delicious, imeem and other top websites. take one good thing that works well with all of them. then put those good ideas together and tell me what you get.

Yes, stealing ideas is okay if it influences your final piece. This is how design / art develops... no stealing or using somebody's ideas = no art movement development.

this is ridiculous, there is nothing in this life that we create that isnt born from our influences and anything we create is a copy or adaptation of something else.

in fact the way we "create" normally ends up being a disgusting bastard child which is less efficient, less purposeful and less beautiful then the solution that preceded it.

i think of it like modding cars, if i see a certain diffuser looking hot with a certain bumper or a certain interior effect that looks amazing i'll steal the idea and incorporate it into my project

I don't agree with our loud, allergenic friend - Jeff's point is valid, if you steal great ideas, you can then improve upon them. If you copy, you're content with "imitation" with no improvement.
