At a total cost of more than 3.1 million lives, the Vietnam conflict is, to date, Americas
longest and most controversial war. It also marked the first time TV journalists ventured to
the frontlines to bring the spectacle of combat into American living rooms. Across the nation,
Americans watched, captivated by the surprise Tet Offensive and the slow-motion tragedy of
the 77-day Battle of Khe Sanh, and inspired by the courage and skill of American soldiers at
decisive engagements like Ia Drang Valley, Con Thien, and Dak To.

This special THE HISTORY CHANNEL collection profiles the decision-makers of the Vietnam War
and chronicles each key event, from the advisors arrival in 1959 to the airlift from the roof
of the American Embassy in 1975. Archival footage and interviews with historians and veterans
reveal the military and political strategies in play, and CBS News archives take viewers to
the frontlines to witness the daily struggles of American servicemen and women.

Combining interviews with Vietnam veterans and the actual footage from CBS News coverage,
the viewer is given a glimpse into the war that has rarely been seen. Battle stories are
heart breaking enough in the words of the veterans, but coupled with the news footage and
reporting (for the first time from the front lines,) it becomes a greater more personal grief.

well, communism still spread to south vietnam and somehow they did just fine...who'd a thought huh?

  • The US govt never really had a strong desire or drive to completely win the war in vietnam. On the other hand North Vietnam had an outstanding amount of desire and drive to win this war and would have done anything to win and would have fought to the last man standing in all battles. We just didnt have tht desire to win because whether we lost or won it wouldnt have had effected the US at all

here's a key question to you...have you ever been to vietnam?

I certainly have a few years ago, if you like i can email you the photos...i went from the north all the way down to the south, never saw any remains of concentration camps anywhere and only friendly faces...and a people who came to terms with their past and are moving on with great speed as opposed to you lot who keep revisiting your worst atrocities against the world with disturbing glee

  • @MilitantOldLady I only mentioned it because your views on the People's Socialist Republic of Vietnam or whatever they call themselves is the same as Holocaust deniers about Germany under Hitler--it's called denial of the historical record. Yeah go ahead and use Moslem if you like--late Victorianism probably suits you. And don't forget to put the tin foil hat before you go to bed--keeps the CIA mind control rays out ....

  • @MilitantOldLady actually there are a lot of parties in USA...in my state of CA 4 parties are always on the ballot--Dem, Reps, Peace and Freedom (socialist) and American Indep (right wing) plus other parties that gain ballot status on their own---if people don't want to vote for them that's their business but they do have the option.

  • @MilitantOldLady

    *couldn't give a....

  • @555paint

what is up with you and jews? you poked them into the argument twice now...i cont give a flying toss about them or the holocaust...as if everything is about them...and i will continue to say moslems because that is how they were called here since always and they can be offended too for all i care, i bet they have plenty of derogatory remarks for us that they use on a regular basis, but nobody can tell because hey, who speaks arabic or irani, right? you bleeding heart you

  • @MilitantOldLady That is Muslims not Moslesm --the latter that you use is offensive to Muslims since it is a Victorian Era/Brit speak --but then you are the big expert aren't you? As far as evil Muslims go--I am guessing you aren't a woman right? I am guessing you aren't Jewish right?

  • @555paint

wait, ill get a blanket and some cocoa, then you can tell me how you won ww2, helped jesus off the cross and saved the unicorns from the evil evil moslems

  • @MilitantOldLady yeah Nike is Americano---That is my point slow one--your worker's paradise in Ho Chi Minh CIty allows USA corps into your communist utopia to exploit the workers to the maximum---yeah there's your econ progress under communism--exactly what would have happened under if ROV remained in existence

  • @MilitantOldLady I feel like I am communicating with a Holocaust denier; you are like some kinda left wing version of David Irving. You tawk of USA illegal invasions and ignore Vietnam's illegal invasion of Cambodia let alone that Hanoi broke an agreement (Paris Peace Accords) signed in front of zillions of people watching on TV when she invaded south Vietnam. So much for the virtues on communism.

  • @555paint

where the hell do you get your history from? a hobo with moonshine at the local 7/11?
