Edward Said about Orientalism

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Said

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Said

"Edward Said is the late world famous Palestinian intellectual and literature critic. He was a prominent member of the Palestinian parliament-in-exile for 14 years until he quietly stepped down in 1991. In 1948, Said and his family were dispossessed from Palestine and settled in Cairo. He came to the United States to attend college and lived in New York for many years. Because of his advocacy for Palestinian self-determination and his membership in the Palestine National Council, Said was not allowed to visit Palestine until several years ago and passed away in 2003.

The late Edward Said was a professor of English and comparative literature, known as both a scholar of modern literature and theory as well as a scholar of Middle East politics. He also authored the groundbreaking book Orientalism, a seminal evaluation of Western misperceptions of the East (Muslim Orient), which set the stage for post-colonial studies. Other works include the Question of Palestine, Culture and Imperialism and the Politics of Dispossession.":

  • @kifagi Err i don't know what you are getting at. Did you read and understand what i said? you seem confused. I said "surely no one still believes muslims did 911" What don't you understand about that? Also stop blaming whites for the bs wars, it's zionists who is behind it all and they ain't white. Why don't you say zionists instead of whites? To gutless or to stupid, which is it? I'm amazed at how very few muslims ever seem to speak out against zionists are you really that cowardly?

  • @SouthernCross33 Is that so...I guess the whole trashing and destroying muslims is not a product of Whites trashing and over generalizing muslim people so much so that the American military used 9/11 to attack Iraq and destroy its government, steal their oil, revamp their land and infrastructure, destory and kill people (women and children) and make Iraqi men unemployed.

  • Surely no one believes still that 911 was done by muslims? If so they need to be deprogrammed, they're seriously brainwashed

  • @kifagi What a ridiculous generalization

  • I am glad this video is out. Europeans are pathological in nature and this proves it. White people love to paint others as barbaric, terrorists, and heathens, yet, White people are the ones that are psychotic, pathological, terrorists, barbaric, heathens, and aggressive towards anyone who isn't White. Thanks Dr. Edward Said for your work on Orientalism.

  • We have to study the Said's Orientalism for our midterms next week, but I don't mind. He's such an intelligent man and he tells his story so calmly. I could listen to him for ages! Thank you so much for this post! :'D

Edward Said may say a lot of things, but the footage above does speak for itself. Those scenes portray utter madness and zealotry of a community whose faith is based on a warlord's sayings and whose hostility of the outgroup non-faithfull is notorious for anyone willing to just read the first one or two chapters of the quran.

This is not a good thing for humanity, any sane individual ought not tolerate it's presence in his or her community.

  • "journalist and Hollywood"... hmmm? well look who runs it.... wow.. what a koinkidink!

  • The pacing of this series is awkward. How did we go so quickly from the French expedition in Egypt to the contemporary Palestine debate? That didn't work well.

Anyway, the debate surrounding Orientalism is a very interesting one. I would highly encourage anyone to have a look at 'Dangerous Knowledge: Orientalism and Its Discontents' by Robert Irwin before uncritically accepting either Said's premises or his conclusions about Orientalist scholarship.

  • Ask any "Red" Indian in North America if America doesn't occupy it's lands and territories.
