How long would it actually take to make the bowstring? The bow? Im writing a book and researching bows cuz i have an archer in it.

@brightstump i did it slowly so it would be easier to see but it would only take about 2 hours to make a bow string. The bow would take a few days if you did it all by hand with no machines.

@ThOutRider2 It is in the video. There are 2 videos, watch them both. I can't really explain it. You need to see it. Basically you just splice in new strips as you go. Kind of like a french braid.

@brightstump A bow would take almost a year to do by hand because you have to cut the branch (best time to do is late august), strip the bark, make sure there are no imperfections, cut it down to the late wood (or summer wood), let it season - which means to dry in a dark cool place - and then all the shaping and tillering and smoothing. check out primitivepathways making a primitive bow series for more details

@L2FlyMN There are several vid's that show that version and the majority of those people suggest not doing it until you have a lot of experience at making cordage. From all the cordage video's i have seen This is actually the first one to twist with both hands. Most of the Video's show the person holding the cord end and twisting the PAIR in the opposite direction. She is doing basically that BUT by using the holding hand she actually twists towards herself for all the twists and Loops away.
