By the way, you should get a V/U handheld for satellite communications or with the space station.

Is there an exams material for study? I mean an organised e-book? I imagine that it should be something if the exams were like the "Microsoft Office" exams, I mean there is always a typical learning material to get a certification paper.

I'm not rich either, but I strongly think to start learning the HAM radio. While you live in the U.S you are lucky because you can buy second hand and good stuff. You can start with a receiver, and learning the theory. If you pass the exams, you continue by buying a second hand good tranceiver for a beginner. Then by passing the years, the other collegues, HAMers from the club will help you to buy a better stuff. The problem here is the learning material. The exams are not organised so well.

well you can talk on the 6m , wether you consider that hf or not. Im not rich either. I dont have a steady income (jhs). I would say that if you have a computer, and internet (witch you do obviously) get echolink, you can talk to people, repeaters, and links all acrost the world
