(September 27, 2007) With new life expectancy statistics coming out, should the US be living it up or living it down? Today, 46% of Americans have no health insurance -- yet we are living longer than ever before. Nonetheless, when ranked against the life expectancy of other countries, the US has plunged from 11th to 42nd -- and experts are blaming the lack of healthcare for the loss.

  • PRODUCER'S COMMENT: Its unusual for a Global Pulse to include so much American new coverage as this episode does. But when the BBC reported that the US lost ground in Life Expectancy, while US news said we were gaining, we had to look into the topic.

Predictably, the BBC was looking at the whole world, while the Americans focused only inside the US. We were really surprised by how little news coverage there is about the health care crisis on US TV news in general.

  • I'm personally tired of private health insurance being blamed for all our health care problems. Give us a true free enterprise health care system, with REAL CONSUMER CHOICE instead of herding us into employer sponsored or government plans, and we will get some real innovation (and cost control) in health care.

  • Really? What news channels have you been watching? Nowadays, especially with the election coming soon, that's all you hear about is how we need some kind of universal health care plan and how we're not up to par with other industrialized countries on life expectancy.

  • Try to reply on the video not me you fucking moron.

  • you need to shut up

  • Your efforts are appreciated. I, for one, am sick of hearing U.S. officials claim that we have "the best healthcare in the world". This is a myth that needs to be exposed. The fact that we as a nation can afford universal healthcare is another one.

  • Its not so much a contrast in facts. The US life expectancy is rising however not as quickly as other developed nations this is why they are lower than other developed nations and some quickly developing nations.
