Mexican drug cartels reach Europe

Violent Mexican cartels that have killed thousands in a drug war at home this year are increasingly smuggling drugs to Europe by way of Africa. A 15-month international drug sweep called "Project Reckoning" captured 500 Gulf cartel collaborators in the United States, Mexico and Italy. Given the pressure from the Calderon government, we are seeing some of the Mexican groups seeking alliances with Europeans. According to the United Nations, The poor and weak states of West Africa make an ideal base of operations for international drug traffickers. Interpol says Mexican drug cartels could be using Africa's Atlantic seaboard for transport or storage purposes.

@juliothegreat The Zetas original leaders were Special Forces. The vast majority of people hired by the cartels are ordinary individuals. They pay people to alert them when the military or police roll into town. They are afraid. Even in firefights, the majority of deaths are from the cartels.

I bet that the Russians hire ex-Spetsnaz soldiers so they have some of the best in the world in their payroll.

@SunsetSideVet They have passed the Italians and might pass the rest only in the USA. Its next door. Europe is across the ocean. Some of the drugs and money gets intercepted by Mexican and at times American law officials when going across the border. Now how the hell will it make it across the pacific or atlantic all intact?

There are US Navy ships in those areas and will shoot anything. The cartels will lose too much in doing so.
