Self-made savonius

This savonius has only one point of friction. The bearing taken from an old washing machine makes the balance a bit worse though.
This vawt will turn in rather slow winds and the response to changes in wind speed is quite fast. It has no generator attached on it as you can see. Notice the great RPM-meter :D

Mate I love it. I've been reading heaps on the net re: the billion designs. I'm about to try and build a VAWT. I always like the Savonius for simplicity and am about to build something similar.

Could you give me some rough dimensions just for interest?

Very sweet design. I am about to build a savonius vawt myself and use it to pump water up about 8 ft. I have everything in my head on how I want to build it and will be starting soon.
