Connie recording "My Heart Has A Mind Of Its Own," her second consecutive number-one hit from 1960. This is a little-known track of one of the single vocal versions that she later overdubbed. Apparently, she did dozens and dozens of takes - about 40 or 50, I believe - before she chose the version she and the producers liked best. Of course, the extra work paid off because she hit the top spot with this song. (She was the first female pop singer to have back-to-back number-one hits. Her previous one was "Everybody's Somebody's Fool," followed by this great tune.) Photos and music are from my personal Connie Francis collection.

  • What a treasure you shared with us! Thank you so much!

  • i bet when she did this version in the studio they all went wild so clear and present

  • Connie did several sessions and as I remember dozens of takes on this song getting it just the way she wanted. I've heard ALL the versions from ALL the sessions and I swear I always thought all of them were great. She does do some interesting alterations with the vocals and the arrangements working toward her goal of just the right recording. That self-discipline and great ear got her the a second consecutive number one record.

  • WOW, historic !

  • This is SO beautiful! You can just see how hard connie worked to bring her great songs to us. Thanks for this wonderful post. She's just phenomenal.
