This is the first few minutes of the 1978 Milwaukee 200. It is from the original live broadcast of the race by CBS. I do have the complete live broadcast. If you are interested in getting more footage, please contact me.
@3338MAN Yep, Ongais' car was great looking and driving machine. Those races at Milwaukee were all good back in the '70's and 80's. I saw many of them as a kid, including one in '75 I think when Foyt lapped the field.
Danny "On-the-Gas", great driver! One of those guys that drove everything (Dragsters, Champ Cars, F1) and was good in all of them! Thanks for posting!
The Flyin' Hawaiian won just about everything but the Speedway that year and he was a major factor there until he broke. Those black race cars with the white number 25 are as classic and iconic as the yellow Chapparal's of the era. What a great atmosphere at Milwaukee! A great crowd in the summertime. Two of the best auto racing announcers in the business, ever, Ken Squire and a David Hobbs who looks ready to jump back in a race car. Engine controversy. Sheldon and Bigs in the race. Wow!
It's great to see this coverage of the USAC Championship Trail Citicorp Cup.
Danny Ongais and the Interscope Racing Team had everyone covered that year. Ongais won 5 times and Led every race he started in 78.
The team manager was Parnelli Jones and the Team was owned by Ted Field, the name Interscope was just a name Field thought up, it didn't have a meaning. The team was funded by the Field Family.
