The sort of asymmetrical passage at the end of the scherzo section, right before the trio begins (around 1:25) is endlessly fascinating. I've heard it about a million times and still haven't figured out how it works.

It's a small orchestra but strong sound and strong players too.

the advantage of a smaller orchestra is the clarity in the instrumentation and timbre that you wouldn't hear in an orchestra of grand size. The French Horns are quite prominent in this ensemble which is why Beethoven wrote this movement as he did...to feature other voices in the orchestra besides strings
We're playing this song in our state orchestra...its so beautiful when you hear it live.
