Diatomaceous Earth is probably the most effective naturally occurring protective powder. In this video we see Roy from www.Canada-Bedbugs.com applying diatomaceous earth around a bed post to prevent and treat bedbugs.

  • Diatomaceous Earth is made up mainly of SiO2 and works as an insecticide through physical mechanisms. The fine DE dust absorbs wax from the insect cuticle, causing death due to desiccation (Ebeling, 1971; Golob, 1997; Korunic, 1998; Fields and Korunic, 2002). It works as a deterrent as bedbug do recognize its odor and stay away from it. It is only a slight obstacle for the bedbugs as they find ways around it following the trail of Co2 left by humans. Co2 is the key, not DE.
